New and innovative materials in commercial interior design

Commercial interior design requires new and innovative materials to be used. Since there are constantly new trends and styles emerging in the interior design world, this means that new materials are emerging to accommodate them. These are not necessarily natural materials like wood because this material doesn’t have as much sustainability as synthetic materials. The great thing about chemically engineered materials is they can take any shape or size that you want for your design. This is not something that you can do with natural materials because you are limited to the shapes that you can cut out from them. Synthetic materials are designed through chemistry, which means they can be altered to be as durable and visually appealing as you want.

Below are some of the newest and most innovative materials used in commercial interior designs.

Vinyl Flooring

Certain types of vinyl flooring are made to be cheap and flimsy. But the newest chemically formulated vinyl flooring materials are highly durable and resistant to moisture. On top of that, they are easy to clean as well. If you are running a restaurant, medical facility, or any type of office, placing vinyl tiles on the floor can benefit you in a number of ways. For one thing, you don’t need to worry about staining or tearing carpets or wooden flooring. Plus, vinyl floor tiles come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, and patterns. This gives you full range to create any unique look that you want on your floor.

Polyurethane Foam

Upholstered furniture no longer contains cotton material to provide its cushioning effect. A lot of companies are using polyurethane foam as the cushioning material for their furniture instead. This is a synthetic resin that is comfortable to sit on while remaining durable and long-lasting too. It is also easier to give furniture a unique design while still being able to cushion it properly. Natural materials like cotton can sometimes influence the design to be more standard and boring. Also, if you want to cushion the flooring underneath your carpets, polyurethane foam is a great material to use for this purpose too. That way, if anyone trips or falls on the floor, the impact will not hurt them.

Composites

If you look at the surfaces of countertops in kitchens, bathrooms or anywhere else, they are no longer just made from marble or hardwood materials. You will usually see a mixture of various materials, like epoxies and recycled glass. Basically, any discarded materials which were once used by consumers are recycled into newly formed composite materials.

Interior designers will actually benefit more from this in their professional lives because they will receive LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credits. This will help them obtain the necessary certifications needed to work on their projects. As for the look of these surfaces, most people won’t even be able to tell they are made from recycled materials. In fact, the patterns of the design can often be manufactured with these materials to make them more original for the end user.
